Prescribed Burning Aids Producers in Land Management

ARDMORE, Okla. (Jan. 13, 2012) — The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host an educational workshop on the benefits and proper use of prescribed burning for land management.
The Prescribed Burning Workshop, which is open to the public, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Noble Foundation Kruse Auditorium (located at 2510 Sam Noble Parkway, Ardmore, Okla., 73401).
"Prescribed burning is a tremendous tool in land resource management, but it must be used in a safe and proper manner to be effective," said Ken Gee, wildlife research consultant. "This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the various aspects of burning, teach them how to conduct a safe burn and give them hands-on experience in a controlled setting."
The workshop's morning session will feature presentations from Noble Foundation wildlife and range consultants on various topics, including legal and liability considerations, techniques for managing fire, environmental considerations and prescribed burning plans. Participants will also receive several publications and articles addressing prescribed burning.
Following lunch, a demonstration burn will be held at the Lake Murray Field Trial Grounds (weather permitting). This demonstration will include a detailed explanation of equipment used for prescribed burns.
