API 2013 Summer Internship

Apply for a 10-week internship as part of the editorial team.

Angus Productions Inc. (API) is offering a 2013 summer internship, allowing a student to be part of the editorial team. This year’s internship will be much more industry- and producer-focused. The writing-intensive internship will offer the selected intern the opportunity to participate in producing various publications, including the Angus Journal, the Angus Beef Bulletin (ABB), the Angus Beef Bulletin EXTRA (ABBx), the Angus eList and editorial websites, plus assist in social media efforts. The internship will be flexible enough to tailor to the strengths and needs of the intern, but many duties can be expected.

“The API internship offers an excellent opportunity for aspiring writers to gain experience, broaden their knowledge of the beef industry and build that portfolio,” says Shauna Hermel, editor.

The intern can expect to conduct three producer interviews and write one of each of the following: news story, short feature story, long feature story, short personality profile, long personality profile, research article, research summary and an optional photo series. These categories correspond with the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) Critique & Contest, and the intern could have a potential entry in each category. The intern will learn the magazine production process for two distinctly different magazines, the Angus Journal and the ABB, and an eZine, the ABB EXTRA, in addition to multi-media enhancement copy in the digital replica of the Angus Journal. The intern will also participate in the editorial planning process.

Other duties may require the intern to assist in the daily gathering, compiling and proofing that feeds our publications; take responsibility for managing a regular column in a magazine; assist in maintenance and potential expansion of topic sites and the API Virtual Library; and travel to industry meetings as assigned.

To apply, send a cover letter, résumé and writing samples to Shauna Hermel, Angus Productions Inc., 3201 Frederick Ave., Saint Joseph, MO 64506 or shermel@angusjournal.com by Feb. 5, 2013.
