News Update

September 20, 2017

The National Western Angus Bull Sale Scheduled for Jan. 10, 2018.

When most think of the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colo., they think of weathered wooden green chairs, historic brick livestock buildings, cool mountain air and the view of the Rocky Mountains in the distance. The NWSS is a fixture on most stockmen’s calendars, taking place each January in the Mile High City. For the last century, some of the best livestock in the country have been displayed and exhibited in the historic stockyards or in the coliseum on “the Hill.”

One of the major highlights of the NWSS is the famed National Western Angus Bull Sale event, which takes place on the Hill each year. The National Western Angus Bull Sale event drew more than 2,500 spectators to the stock show coliseum last January. The only sale managed by the American Angus Association grossed $306,250 and sold 40 bull lots averaging $6,805. The Angus Foundation Heifer Package raised more than $265,000 for Angus youth.

No matter the size of your operation — the National Western Angus Bull Sale event is an event you don’t want to miss. This year, the historic event is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018.

Kansas State University and PepsiCo Team Up
on Affordable Nutrition

Kansas State University (K-State) has entered into an agreement with PepsiCo Inc. to focus on making nutritious food and beverage products more affordable and accessible.

As part of the collaboration, the university’s faculty and students will work on projects to develop innovative new product ideas for the global food and beverage leader. The partnership will leverage the university’s research strengths across multiple food and life sciences to help the company attain its stated goal of increasing the availability of convenient, affordable and enjoyable nutrition for consumers around the world.

PepsiCo officials said the goal is part of the company’s 2025 sustainability agenda, which includes aspirations to transform its product portfolio by significantly reducing sugar, salt and saturated fat levels in its products and continuing to expand its focus on delivering positive nutrition.

PepsiCo’s nutrition brands, which include Tropicana, Quaker, Aquafina and Naked Juice among others, comprise about 25% of PepsiCo’s $63 billion portfolio of food and beverage brands. Merck Animal Health Applauds Dee Griffin as
Mentor of the Year

Merck Animal Health (known as MSD Animal Health outside of the United States and Canada) and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) recently presented veterinarian Dee Griffin with the Mentor of the Year Award as a result of his significant contributions to the bovine medicine industry and his commitment to mentoring the next generations of bovine veterinarians. Each year, the award is given out at the AABP Annual Conference to recognize an individual who has played a role in educating, supporting and advancing the careers of future bovine veterinarians.
