News Update

October 13, 2015

Pasture Rates on the Rise

Recent grassland- and pasture-rental rates appear to be on the rise, while cropland values are still showing decline in some areas, according to a Nebraska report from Pork Network. Prices vary, of course, by region.

The analysis comparing 2014 and 2015 averages for pasture-rental rates show year-over-year increases ranging from 11% to 85%. Grass-lease prices reported earlier in the year were generally higher through Wyoming, the Nebraska Panhandle and central Nebraska, and western South Dakota.

Harvest results from 2015, lower grain prices and expected lower farm profits could affect the pending land market, but long-term economic trends for land value and ag markets remain positive, according to a cited source from Farmers National Co.

Watch this week’s The Angus Report to learn more. You can also watch the show at 5 p.m. CDT Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. CDT Saturday and at 7:30 a.m. CDT each Monday morning on RFD-TV.

NMSU to Host Agritourism Conference

Agritourism can diversify an agricultural operation beyond growing and selling crops and livestock. The industry is widespread in the United States, with a wide range of activities for agritourists to participate in, from picking fruits and vegetables, riding horses, tasting honey, and learning about wine- and cheese-making to shopping in farm gift stores and farm stands for local and regional produce or hand-crafted gifts.

New Mexico State University (NMSU) will host the 2015 New Mexico Agritourism Conference Nov. 12 to 14 at the MCM Hotel Elegante, 2020 Menaul Blvd. in Albuquerque. The conference will include tours on Thursday, Nov. 12, of several agritourism operations in the Albuquerque area. The general session will be Friday and Saturday morning, Nov. 13 and 14 at the hotel, with breakout sessions Friday afternoon.
