Winter Weather Blasts Midwest

An arctic blast of freezing air has spread across the Midwest and much of the upper Plains. Wind chill warnings, wind advisories and warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS) have farmers and ranchers across the region taking extra precautions. NWS reports indicate that low temperatures combined with strong winds will combine to create a wind chill well below 0° F, with most areas expected to reach a -25° F to -30° F wind chill, with some areas reaching a -45° F wind chill.

A Wisconsin news station reports on the frigid temperature drop at www.channel3000.com/news/18477449/detail.html.

For more tips on avoiding frostbite or hypothermia in both humans and livestock, refer to “Fight Frostbite” on pages 142-143 of the January Angus Journal, or visit www.angusjournal.com/aj_article1.html?CID=6981 to download the article.
