Records were set last week at the 100th National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colo., as the 2006 Angus Foundation Heifer Package sold for $250,000 on Jan. 12.

Canyon Creek Angus LLC of Cody, Wyo., and Genoa, Nev., placed the final bid on the bred female donated by Rishel Angus, North Platte, Neb. Contending bidders included Fox Run Farms of Missouri and Shoulderbone Plantation of Georgia.

B/R Ruby of Tiffany 4214 is a February 2004 female bred to Ironwood New Level and is due to calve next month. In addition to the heifer, the package included 30 days of insurance from American Live Stock Insurance Co., Geneva, Ill.; transportation to the buyer’s ranch, provided by Lathrop Livestock Transportation, Dundee, Ill.; and a flush and three embryos from Trans Ova Genetics, Sioux Center, Iowa.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the Angus Foundation, which supports education, youth and research in the Angus breed. For more information about the Foundation, visit www.angusfoundation.org or contact Milford Jenkins, Angus Foundation director of development.
