Cattlemen’s College Set to Kick Off Convention

Pfizer Animal Health has announced speakers for its nationally recognized Cattlemen’s College state program coming to the 2005 South Dakota Cattlemen’s Convention in Sioux Falls.

Keynote speakers for the program are Gary Smith, Colorado State University distinguished professor in meat science, and Certified Angus Beef LLC (CAB) Vice President Larry Corah. Presentation topics will address the added profits available to producers who focus on the consumer.

The convention will be at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel & Convention Center in Sioux Falls from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, beginning Wednesday with registration at 8 a.m. The Cattlemen’s College program follows from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Smith will explore why consumers eat beef and the components of taste that give beef its distinct advantage over other proteins. Corah will focus on the dollars available to producers of high-quality, consumer-oriented beef.

These presenters bring years of beef industry experience from ranch to packer, with a science-based approach to give producers the tools to implement change at home.

Marketing for Black Ink Seminar Set for Dec. 5

Record-high cattle prices don’t mean you can put calf-marketing strategies on cruise control. It’s time to expand your options and gain a bigger slice of the pie. The CAB “Marketing for Black Ink” seminar gives producers tools to increase profit and understand the market for high-quality cattle.

The seminar will start the evening before the Range Beef Cow Symposium, Monday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn, Rapid City, S.D. The event begins with a free social hour and appetizer reception, and the program starts at 7:30 p.m.

Speakers from across the industry will discuss how cow-calf producers can find better ways to raise and market value-added calves. Producers will hear about new and proven marketing options that increase calf value.

No RSVP is necessary, but more information is available through Mark McCully, CAB Supply Development Director, at mmccully@certifiedangusbeef.com, or (330) 345-2333.
